Overview

Located on Level 3 of Westfield Newmarket in Auckland, Yum Cha Newmarket stands out as a vibrant destination for lovers of authentic Chinese yum cha and dim sum. The modern space combines cleanliness with a lively atmosphere, making it suitable for both casual solo diners and groups seeking a shared culinary experience.

The menu is a well-curated showcase of classic Cantonese dishes alongside modern interpretations. Highlights like the Teriyaki Chicken Bao and handmade Pan-Fried Beef Bao deliver satisfying textures and bold flavors. Their steamed pork xiaolongbao bursts with rich broth, capturing the essence of traditional soup dumplings, while the shrimp pork wonton soup and beef stew noodle options offer comforting warmth through meticulously crafted broths.

Dim sum enthusiasts will appreciate the range from crystal shrimp dumplings and pork & shrimp siu mai to the smooth, custard-filled steamed buns. Notably, the crispy shrimp rice crepe (cheung fun) has garnered praise for its delicate thinness paired with fresh, flavorful fillings. Seasonal vegetable dishes and congee selections such as pumpkin and millet provide lighter, wholesome options, rounding out the menu’s balance.

Customer feedback reflects a consensus on freshness and quality, with some remarks noting elevated prices but justifying it through ingredient quality and tea offerings. The restaurant serves aromatic jasmine tea that complements the food elegantly. Like this place. Been going there since sunworld closed down. Decent yumcha and ok prices. I like the dumpling assortment then don't have to order separate plates when one or two of you. Crispy prawn dumplings, egg tarts. Recommend as a local resident. Decent for a mall yumcha.

It is very very expensive yum cha place, the average basic serving of dim sum is $9.90. Aside from the price, we love the jasmine tea served, incredibly fragrant and good quality compared to other dim sum places in Auckland. The siu mai, pork ribs and beef tendon were average, however the red Chong fen was very nice and crispy and I quite enjoy the pineapple bun which both were better than other dim sum places we tried around Auckland. I probably won’t return anytime soon due to the price. Service was efficient and transactional.

Yum Cha New Market is a solid choice for dim sum lovers! The Crispy Shrimp rice crepe was absolutely delicious smooth, flavorful, and perfectly textured. The Steam chicken feet were also a standout, tender and packed with savory goodness. However, the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf was a bit too wet and sticky for my liking, making it less enjoyable. Service was efficient, and the atmosphere was lively, typical of a good yum cha place. Would definitely return for the cheung fun and chicken feet, but might skip the sticky rice next time. worth a visit for dim sum cravings

I was recomended here to try their "Handmade Prawn & Shrimp Wontons" and was not disappointed. It only came with 5 pieces but for $11.90 but was very well worth it as it had whole prawns and shrimp in it. The steamed beef rice roll (cheung fun) was also a delicious dish too. The roll was nice and thin with the right amount of beef, although it took a little to serve it was well worth the wait. Lastly I ordered the crispy pork bun for takeaway and upon arriving home couple hours later it was still crispy. 100% will be coming back when I visit Auckland next time.
